What is the Role of a School Counselor?

I am here to help every student do their best in all areas of their lives from understanding how their feelings, behavior, and thoughts may be affecting their success to weekly guidance lessons.  This year Garwood’s guidance lessons will focus around topics such as problem solving, anti-bullying/cyber bullying, the 3 B’s, personal safety, feelings/empathy, character building, career & college, and test taking skills.  I am excited to begin the Second Step program, which involves building social skills and academic success.

My counseling theory has always been to provide students strategies and support to resolve problems; this increases their self confidence in their own abilities.  I use various counseling theories targeted at helping each student’s individual needs.  It is important for me that students develop into contributing citizens in their communities, with self efficacy and the tools necessary to succeed.  I will always strive for your partnership and collaboration in their development as I work with your student.  I also am here to serve families, so if there are any resources you may need please do not hesitate to email, call, or meet with me in person.  I want to make your student’s stay at Garwood and your family’s the best ever!
